Review: Poker forums

Funny ol things poker forums. Most of them go under the guise of “oh yeah, this is a great resource for poker and lolz” when in reality it’s more like, “click this affiliate link or I don’t eat this month”. So it’s a fine line been the sale and the content. We have a put together a brief review of each of the forums out there (well not all of them, that would be impossible) but some of the ones we have stumbled across.

Two Plus Two

Two Plus Two is like the first kid in town that got dial-up internet in terms of popularity. Everyone at one time or another has been there. It is a genuinely well meaning resource for players to hang out. Often copied but never bettered. A lot of the major sites actually have reps on there, so it’s dead helpful sometimes for getting your problems heard. Plus it can be piss your pants funny at times. Check it out here.

Poker Strategy

Not to everyone’s taste but this is very much a poker player’s poker forum. The threads are kinda hardcore and very poker savvy (bonus huntery too) but hey what’s wrong with that? It’s truly good place to get some analytical insight into your game play. Post some bad beats and you’ll get plenty of “oh I would have checked that blah blah” posted by people who are genuinely fond of the game. They have some real tight articles too. Yes this is an affiliate site, but they make a bloody good job of it. The reviews aren’t sycophantic and are normally spot on. Well worth a visit.

Pokah

Gonna get this one in early as it was somewhat of a benchmark in the industry. The once all powerful PokerRoom.com added a forum function to their site and it absolutely kicked ass in it’s day. But to be fair, it’s still worth a look even if you’re not PokerRoom.com (bwin as it is now) player. It was pretty cutting edge in its day, I mean now everyone is on it, but as for firsts, this was pretty cool. Take a look.

Cardchat

Never really been able to get on with it myself, but people go there and they hangout, so it must be doing something right. It’s kinda generic as poker forums go, but again there is some pretty decent content in there. But they do have some members only vibe going on, but signing up is easy and take a few seconds. They have a pretty decent freerolls section, bit of a bottom feeder hangout, but hey we’ve all been there and then some.

PokerForums

Has dropped a bit in popularity of late but it’s still a decent place for hanging out. They are pretty relaxed about content and the like. They do a bit of the old cash trading on there (money transfers), i’e people go on and beg for money sometimes. Which in itself is entertaining sometimes. And they do have conspiracy corner full of people certain that online poker rigged, people that are utterly convinced that a poker site would actually be interested in taking their bankroll of $64.38, like yeah that’s gonna make all the difference to that’s months balance sheet. But honestly, that’s as much a part of online poker as the avatars, so it’s good reading at times.

Neverfold.net

A very small player but a genuinely nice place to hangout and chat. It’s got that web 2.1997 look, but that actually works in its favour. Simple to use and you seem always to get fairly genuine answers.

Reddit.com/r/poker

Don’t know if you use reddit already. But it’s the absolutely nuts of a web aggregator site. All user generated, people post links and these links in turn get voted on, based on their popularity. Can be a wee bit insidery at times, plus they do yak on about Narwhals and bacon a shitload. But the sub-reddit about poker is a golden place. No one stands to gain at this place, so it’s pretty honest commentary you get.

PokerNews Forum

Sometimes size does matter and PokerNews certainly has the readership, little bit sterile at times, but a good place to get your problems sorted right off the bat.
