Texas Hold’em Poker Rules

You can’t be a winning poker player if you don’t play the game, so brush up on all the poker rules below for popular games such as Texas Hold’em, Omaha, 7 Card Stud, and Five Card Draw. One thing to keep in mind is just because you’re a whiz at Hold’em it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t stretch your skills to learn other games.

The world of online poker is always evolving and the most profitable games today might change in the blink of an eye. Well-rounded players that can succeed in a wide range of games will always have an edge, as they can sit at any table when the conditions are right and have the best odds of emerging a winner.

Texas Hold’em is the most popular form of poker today, both at online poker rooms and at brick and mortar poker rooms and casinos. One of the primary reasons it’s so popular is that it’s a very easy poker game to play, with straightforward rules and shard community cards that amp up the action.

Each player is dealt to cards facedown to start the action in Texas Hold’em, with a round of betting after the first two cards are dealt. The dealer then turns over three cards face-up, which is called the “flop”, with another round of betting following.

The dealer will deal another card face-up (called the “turn”) followed by betting, then one last card is dealt face-up, the “river”. One last round of betting occurs after the river card is dealt; when all betting is done, the players still in the hand turn their cards over. The winner is the player who can make the best five card poker hand, using a combination of their two facedown hole cards and the five shared cards in the middle.

The best hand is formed by any combination of cards, as the player can use both their hole cards, one of their hole cards, or even play the board if the five shared community cards makes the best possible hand.

Omaha Poker Rules

Omaha is very similar to Texas Hold’em but with a few important twists. Players are dealt four cards facedown to begin play; from that point the action is exactly the same as in Hold’em, with a round of betting, the flop being dealt, etc.

The other big difference with Omaha is that a player must use exactly two of their four hole cards to make the best five card poker hand possible. They don’t have the option to play the board as they can in Hold’em and they can’t use just one of their cards; they must use two hold cards when making the best five card poker hand.

Omaha can also be played as a high-low split pot game, which is called O8 or Omaha 8 or Better. The basic rules are the same but the pot is split between the player with the best hand and the player with the worst hand.

Five Card Draw and 7 Card Stud Rules

Five Card dra is one of the simpler poker games to play and the rules couldn’t be easier. Each player is dealt five cards facedown and there’s a round of betting. Players are then allowed to discard some of their cards and receive new ones. After all players have discarded, there’s another round of betting, then a winner is decided as far as which player hs the best five card poker hand.

Seven Card Stud starts with each player being dealt two cards facedown and one card face-up. There’s a round of betting, then each player is dealt another card face up. Each player will then be dealt a total of four face up cards (with a round of betting after each card is dealt), then dealt a final event card facedown, with a final round of betting.

Players still in after the last card is dealt will have three cards facedown and four cards face-up. After the final round of betting is over, players turn over their hands and the player with the best five card poker hand from among their seven cards is declared the winner.
