Strategy tips for Omaha

poker information

First, I must tell you about the general strategy for Omaha. In a game of full ring limit Omaha, you need a "nut" or close to that to win.

Nut is a hand that can be beaten ONLY by hidden squats as well as straight flushes. These are killer hands and are referred to as "pure" nuts! Remember, just a couple of pair and trips will not lead you to victory. YOU NEED A NUT. Period. It can either be a nut flush, nut straight, or nut full house.

Nut, Nut, And Nut!

In Omaha, you begin with four cards. Each hand of four cards consists of 6 hold'em hands. This happens when you transform the four cards into all possible groupings of two, say, ABCD = AD AC AB BD BC CD.

If there are six players in a pot after flop, you can compare this situation with the game of Texas Hold'em against 30 players. This is because each of your five opponents is having six Hold'em hands rather than one. Therefore, in case you get to the river with an appreciable hand, which can be defeated by some other two card grouping, then be prepared for a loss!

In case the board shows a pair of cards or three suited ones, you get your high end straight on your flop into trouble. You will be knocked out by a full house or a flush. Therefore, PLAY FOR THE 'NUT' ALWAYS!!

Getting higher Payoffs Work For You

It's not enough to have a single or couple of good hold'em hands. However, many players fall to into the temptation of playing such cards. A smart strategy is to start with hands consisting of four cards that combine with each other to form about 5-6 straight hold'em hands rather than just one or two.

Strategy Tips

• Keep an eye on the chances of getting a nut hand.
• High pair combined with an overcard is NOT a good flop in Omaha.
• Avoid raising prior to a flop unless you have aces or kings.
• Keep a watch on your opponents.
• Bluff and get caught once a while. This wards off predictability.

So, hit for the pot!
